Why the convention?
The idea of the convention was born in Houston, Texas in 2014 during the installation of the newly elected President of the Sawa Houston where some leaders of Sawa associations began to think about the opportunity to bring together all the daughters and sons of SAWA in the United States that is to say all children from the geographic-cultural area going from Campo to Manfé, within the same brand to exchange project ideas, share and celebrate their common heritage.

In 2018, during a fundraising event in GA organized by Sawa GA, the conversation about the organization of the convention circulated in full force and Houston was selected as the first group to host the convention. The fabric of the convention was chosen. At that meeting, the following individuals participated: Moukouri Kouo Elizabeth (Former President of the DC chapter), Charles Ngalle, Benjamin Ekwalla and Tit Dayas-Barry (Former president of Houston)

More recently between 2019 and 2022, the leaders renewed their commitment to making the idea of the convention come to fruition and contacted other associations to bring together all the Sawa people. This is how the first convention bringing together the Sawa associations of the United States and Canada for the first time took place in 2023 in Washington DC. The following sawa associations started the project:
Mboa Sawa O America- Washington DC - Sawa Nya Georgia - Atlanta, Georgia - Ngond’a Sawa O Canada (Pan-Canadian association) - Mboa Sawa O America , Houston, Texas - Women Sawa of Los Angeles, California - Sawa California.
For the kickoff event in Washington DC, additional Sawa groups have lent a hand for its success.
